Advances in the construction of the GOLD LEED Office Building for Cajamar

In May 2012 Savener was invited to take part in an International Tender promoted by Cajamar with the aim of selecting the drafting team for a new Office Building in Almería which would accommodate its participating companies.

Savener, together with the renowned Almería firm of architects, Arapiles Arquitectos, presented a Project which, after various stages of the tender process, was chosen as the Winning solution and they were selected as the winning team to design the new building.

Cajamar, as Project developer, had clearly established its intention to erect a building that would become a reference point in sustainable construction in the area and in the whole of Spain, and which could at the same time obtain the certificate of the prestigious and globally recognised LEED Rating System of the U.S. Green Building Council.

The proposed solution not only met these requirements but at the same time, and taking into account the geographical position and social characteristics of the area, it also tried to achieve the high levels of sustainability required with a limited investment (lower than the average figure for similar type buildings) and a high degree of flexibility in the internal distribution of spaces.

The final result is a building which obtains the Gold LEED Certification without fuss or shows of technology, in a discreet and direct manner, which puts the user at the centre of the picture. A solution that uses the site’s microclimate and provides a high functionality which allows the interior areas to change and adapt to the different companies that will occupy it over the years.

In addition to the main office areas, the building also includes a cafeteria, childcare, gym, rest and recreation areas, constituting a modern complex designed to combine work and play, health and general comfort.

The thermal, energy and fluid-dynamic tests carried out by Savener have conditioned the configuration of the building envelope and its final shape, and the variety of uses and flexibility required have led to a detailed design of the premises to adapt them to the many different scenarios which may arise.

Works are proceeding at a good rhythm and we hope to complete them at the end of this year.
