Savener develops the New Transformer Substation of the Virgen del Rocío University Hospital

Savener has been selected to carry out the project for a new Transformer Substation at the Virgen del Rocío University Hospital which will provide service to the laundry building, the new boiler room, the future use of the current boiler room building and will support the pumping and air conditioning production systems if necessary.

The aim of this project is to meet the growing needs of the hospital complex, improve the performance of the existing electricity network by incorporating new redundancy capacities and prepare the electricity installation for future steps towards decarbonisation of the system.

One of the most relevant factors that the Savener team is taking into account when proposing the solutions that best suit the client is that, given the public health nature of the hospital centre, the improvements would have a direct impact on patient care.

The improvements proposed would be direct improvements in patient care

Through this design, the low and medium voltage installation will be substantially optimised in part of the system, which will provide a more robust and stable system to be able to attend to patients with greater guarantees.

The use of materials with optimal environmental performance means that the implementation of the system offers fundamental improvements compared to current equipment. In addition, the use of electrical energy and the purchase of this energy from renewable sources will make it possible to reduce the carbon footprint of the hospital complex compared to other energy sources.

Dry encapsulated transformers (3×1,250 kVA) will be used in the Transformer Substation, which have a lower environmental impact than those that use oil as internal insulation. In addition, the medium-voltage protection cells are planned to be air-insulated, without SF6 (sulphur hexafluoride), which is highly polluting.

The incorporation of a new Transformer Substation into the existing system, while maintaining service at all times, is a challenge with important consequences. On the one hand, it clearly shows Savener’s capacity to provide solutions that, through the use of state-of-the-art equipment with low environmental impact materials, care for the planet and provide great economic savings and, on the other hand, contribute to maximum social comfort.
