BioVallo

This project is an example of how a truly sustainable organization of the territory can be the basis for the future development of a healthy, profitable and productive society and economy. The project was developed in Vallo di Diano, south of Salerno, Italy. It was carried out by an international and multidisciplinary team of more than 40 professionals from Italy, Spain, United Kingdom, United States and Portugal. The project was directed and coordinated by a working and coordination team of 5 members, one of which was SAVENER. This team established the concept, the basic ideas and the preliminary developments.



There are three perfectly connected main areas which form the structure and basis of the productive, social and economic activities. BioAgriculture, BiuHub and BioFactory. The whole development is based on Biotechnology, which is the key to success for a competitive society in the next 100 years. BioHub contains the physical support for the development and the know-how around the main concept: materials based on algae, biofuels, use of organic photosynthesis, etc... are all aspects which will be developed. The new structure of territory within BioHub will contain elements such as areas for research, housing for students and a “free university”. BioFactory represents the area where the know-how becomes reality offering society new solutions and products. It is a green production area, as it consumes CO2 for the manufacturing of products which are generated within the area itself. This is possible thanks to the organization of the territory and the conceptual basis of the generated products. This region, which is situated in the Montana Community, is experiencing a degradation of the landscape due to the high number of quarries present in the area for the extraction of the stone necessary for the building of cities such as Naples or Salerno and for the building of roads. At the same time the proposal aims at using degraded spaces to achieve a green and productive regeneration of the landscape and territory.
