SAVENER opens one of its Projects, an ECOBUILDING

The President of Andalusia, José Antonio Griñán, together with other members of his government such as the Regional Minister for Public Works, Rosa Aguilar, officially opened the Service Building of the Fresno Area in the Logistic Activity Zone (ZAL, for its initials in Spanish) of the Bay of Algeciras (Cádiz).

During the ceremony José Antonio Griñán underlined that this building’s objective was that of "being economically competitive through an adequate use which does not extinguish the economic resources". The region’s President pointed out that "it is all about improving what we can already do, that would really be a Sustainable Andalusia".

This building was erected on a 20,000 m2 block of land and has a built area of 18,000 m2. The construction costs were 17 million euros and it has become one of the most recent examples of Sustainable Architecture in Europe.

The exquisite combination of a modern, rational architecture, based not only on plastic values but also on a correct adaptation to the environment, and an enormous variety of efficient solutions, produced as a result a building which is surprising both for its aspect and its performance.

It saves  63% of the energy that a building of similar characteristics would need and approximately 87% of the drinkable water; it provides a high level of comfort for the user and an economical maintenance system;  the materials used were low-emission ones and the lighting level is close to the natural spectrum (thus avoiding fatigue and increasing visual comfort);  the security level is high and it is able to keep functioning with all its equipment for more than 10 hours in case of electrical failure. It is also provided with a modern, integrated management system which can forecast the weather of the area (it has its own weather station) and prepare the building’s devices for an optimum functioning in the future weather conditions.  As a whole it is a reference and a clear example of a Sustainable Building at an international level.

Although the sustainability strategy, the different aspects of Bioclimatic Architecture and all the equipment in the building have been developed by SAVENER Projects, the building was designed together with the team of mrpr arquitectos, well known for their beautiful contemporary architecture.

One of the sustainability strategies adopted was the choice of Andalusian designer and field execution teams; the majority of the components and materials employed in the construction were also from Andalusia.  This not only avoids CO2 emissions through transport but also promotes and bolsters the region’s economy. 

The highest authority of the Regional Government, José Antonio Griñán, expressed his great satisfaction with the project and its final result. The Managing Director of APPA (Andalusian Ports Public Company) and President of ZAL (Logistic Activity Zone), José Salgueiro Carmona also expressed his enthusiasm and satisfaction for having a building of these characteristics.
